Another American holiday...

Posted: 31st Oct 2006

And the only thing I like about it, is candy corn. It reminds me of my grandma and grandpa...they always had a limitless stash of it...I miss them...other than that, Halloween is a overly hyped waste of a holiday. It used to be that kids would trick or treat dusk to whenever their parents were tired or gave you curfew to return. Now a days, you can't do that cuz you don't know if the candy you'll get is tainted, or if you'll get kidnapped, or worse. Now kids go to the malls and trick or treat with their parents. How completely lame! My fondest memory of trick or treating was with my dad and sister Renuka. I was Oscar the Grouch and I don't remember who she was...perhaps a Care Bear, not that I remember really...but mine was a plastic costume with those masks that when you breathed in them it came back to your face and left condensation build up round the mouth and nose hole region. Anyway our dad took us round the neighborhood, and then some. Our mom gave us old pillowcases to use and told us we couldn't eat any of the candy till we got home. We trick or treated dusk to probably bout 10 or 11pm. We each had a half a sack of candy. Back then you got homemade rice crispy treat balls, popcorn balls, and caramel apples! And you could eat it as well. Back then your mom could bake cupcakes a cake or cookies for the class to enjoy. Of course today everything must come in a package, or in a wrapper from the store. Fear is a horrible thing... Today's kids have a real real sh***y Halloween day as well as night. What a bummer too. I miss the good ol' days!
