my backup drive RIP

decided to die today taking all my music and photos and data and email along for the ride to the great computer in the sky ... it will cost $500 - $800 to recover if it can be recovered ... i am very distressed
update: i sent it off on friday and will hear back by tuesday whether or not my data can be recovered

i just found out that it's going to cost $900 and there is a 90% chance of recovering my data ... *never ever ever* be without a backup of stuff that matters for even a few days 'cos the drive will fail in those few days guaranteed
